The word trauma (from the Greek) literally means wound, injury, damage by external violence. Today, "trauma" is used to describe both the traumatic event (the incident), and the traumatic experience itself (I am traumatized) (NCTSN).
For us, Trauma is not necessarily the event, but is primarily about the personal, unique experience and the impact it had on the person.
Trauma is that which causes dissociation (Howell, 2020).
